Vintage 3 Speed English Bicycles

A Couple of Cool 3 Speeds

This is the 500th post on Three Speed Mania!!

These two 3 speeds showed up on Kijiji Toronto today.

First, a British made Supercycle offered at $135.00.

This one appears very clean and original (except missing fenders) and very good value for the price.

Hi Greg, Really enjoying your blog. British made SuperCycles? I restore a lot of this vintage SuperCycle, usually single speeds. Could you point me in the direction of more info on the British connection. I did restore a 1973 3spd SuperCycle with A Shimano 333 3 spd in excellent condition. The frame was made in Poland.

    Take care, Daryl

    • Daryl, there’s not much out there about Canadian Supercycles. Supercycle was a house brand for Canadian Tire (and still is). Bikes were sourced and re-branded from several sources including, lower end Raleighs and CCM bikes in the 50’s and 60’s, Japanese bikes (Bridgestone for one) in the 70’s and I would guess Chinese and Korean bikes today. If you type “Supercycle” in the search box on the site I think a few items will pop up.

  2. More…
A one piece crank and Sturmey Archer gears =CCM supplier and British hub/shifter
Cottered crank and Sturmey Archer gears = Raleigh supplier
Cottered crank and Shimano gears = Japanese (Bridgestone) supplier
This only up until the mid/late 70’s
