I just bought a Canadiana bike off kijiji for $30, and the only thing I can find on the internet about the brand is your post! The fenders are the same, the frame matches, logo, etc. Mine’s in a hell of a lot rougher shape than the one you posted pics of though. Do you know any more about the brand?

I’m not an expert but I would say that these were English built (Raleigh) bicycles. The cottered crank is the evidence and that they were probably branded Canadiana for sale in either a department store chain or a hardware store chain. Anyone else care to weigh in?

Do you know who the seller was of this bike or where I can reach him? If not, do you know of any current sellers of a green 1973 Raleigh Superbe in good condition? I’d prefer one that has been cleaned up with new tires. If not, any recommendations for a Toronto shop that has a good selection of vintage bikes (like the Superbe) that I could contact? Thanks so much for your help!

Just bought a Raleigh DL-1 for my wife and am looking for a local shop that can fix me up some new alum wheels with a 5 speed hub that will work with the Rod Brakes? Do you have any suggestions? I am also on the look out for a men’s 60’s of 70’s Raleigh Superbe
that would suit a 6’4″ ( my modern well mid 80s vintage racing bike is a 64cm). we are just north of Toronto provide the broker with a commission in the form of craft beer or the like.

The rod brake bikes use a very specific rim. You could call Hoop Driver Bicycles and talk to Martin. As for a tall Superbe, they do show up on Kijiji frequently. If you can wait, there’s the Toronto Vintage Bicycle Show coming up in July.

Hey, just wanted to say your blog is great! My husband and I have just recently gotten into biking, and are really enjoying it. We just pulled a his and hers matching set from the trash. They are supercycle from Canadian tire, but I’m not sure on the year. The gear shifts are on the neck of the handle bars, maybe that will help? They are really cool bikes, I can email you pictures if you are interested in seeing them; I think they are a good find, but I don’t know much about vintage bicycles.

Love this style bike better than all others. Had a Hiawatha back in the 70’s with twist grip shift and three speed hub. Now 40+ years later I have 5 bikes with Sturmey Archer hubs including 2 1973?? John Deeres.

Hello Greg, I am from The Netherlands and so far I have rescued three nice English threespeeds from the local thrift stores. Two Raleighs and a BSA. I am in the process of cleaning and finetuning them. I like to keep them original and will not touch the paint. Nice bicycles. I think one Raleigh is from the fifties, the other Raleigh from is from the seventies or early eighties and the BSA is from 1967. Shall I sent you some pictures? I did a autumnish photoshoot today! Thanks for your great blog!

Hi,
I’m having difficulty dating an AC hub. I have a photo but don’t know how to upload or share…
Anyway, the hub reads,
Sturmey Archer England, AW 69 15 Three Speed.
My issue is that there isn’t a 15th month.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I’m new the 3-speed mania.

Jeff here from Winnipeg. Enjoying your 3 speed stories. I have several 3 speeds. I am currently working a couple restoration jobs (after promising myself that I wouldn’t take on any more):
1 a green 1963 Glider Deluxe with drop bars. It had been a man’s commuter bike for 20 years until he retired. Before that it was his brother’s bike that he bought nearly new when he was a teenager.
2 a black 1946 Humber. History unknown but it was in my buddy’s garage, too far down the project list. I convinced him that it needed my attention. It was in very rough shape but is slowly coming back to life. I still need a few period correct parts which is challenging under the current COVID situation because I can’t get into the community bike repair shops.
Have you ever considered going to the lake Pepin 3 speed tour in Red Wing Minnesota. It is a lot of fun.
