The CCM for 57.50 at the time that was huge money with all things being equal.
However todays inexpensive bikes sold at mass market stores are complete junk
but at a low price.

Chain guards were for sissies. My solution was to stuff my pant cuff into my sock. Or you could buy a “pant leg cuff clip”.
