A couple of interesting bikes on Kijiji, Toronto this morning.
A mid 60’s Raleigh Sports @ $190.00 with a somewhat cumbersome “Sportshift”.
And a good lookin’ mid 70’s Raleigh Tourist @ $250.00.
1962 Eatons Glider Deluxe 3 Speed
Despite the fact that I had just told myself “no more bikes”, this one appeared on my neighbour’s lawn yesterday with a for sale sign. I paid full price, $40.00! It had several nice parts on it that have already been harvested and installed on my 1960 Norman.
This bike even has these rare pump brackets attached which will find their way onto another bike. The hub on this one shifts well and the rims are in decent shape.
More to follow. 
Work has started. Bike has been disassembled and all bearings cleaned and re-packed.
There’s a small threaded lug behind the chain ring for attaching a full chain case.

There’s also a bracket on the front fork for a light.
Serial number is 51943with an N and TE beneathN= NottinghamTE = Timothy Eaton? -
It makes me think that this frame was originally intended for something other than a Department Store Bike….

I persuaded a co worker of mine to take the vintage 3 speed plunge and he bought this 1979 Raleigh Sports yesterday, ($70.00 CDN). Very complete and restorable. I’m hoping he’ll document the restoration and send me photos of the progress.

His and Hers Bicycles
Ads often pop up for His and Hers bicycles for sale. Couples often buy them together with the intent of getting out and more active. More often than not, it’s not the case. Before I was bitten by the 3 speed bug I bought a pair of Linus Gastons for my wife and myself. Â Later, I bought a Ladies Superbe for my wife but she didn’t care for it and I sold it at the bike show. I also found a nice pair of His and Hers Raleigh Superbes for my Father-in law and his girlfriend as well.
1956 Raleigh Sports
This one showed up today on Kijiji Toronto. The asking price is $450.00 or so and I’d be surprised if he gets any response considering the condition and the fact he says the gears don’t actually work….
1969 Raleigh Catalogue
Note that someone has written the price of $74.95 on the page, under the Superbe. A quick check of the inflation calculator reveals that this same purchase would cost $590.00 in 2013. I don’t think that you could find anything comparable today for that amount, taking into account the bike came with a leather saddle, a pump, a rack, a Dynohub generator and front and rear lights.
