More Junk! 1950 Hercules Sports
I picked this one up today for a fair price. A 1950 Hercules 3 Speed Sports.
This was built before Raleigh aquired the company in 1960.
Here it is purchased.
At some point in it’s 66 years the original trigger has been replaced by a Sturmey Archer 3/4 speed trigger.
Head badge looks good.
The drive side crank is strangely bent and filed to clear the chaincase.
I suspect the spindle is backwards…
Sports Model decal.
Old style calipers that take a specific cable.
An N.O.S. cable included in the sale.
Interesting brake levers.
An odd cable stop. I don’t think it’s correct.
Period pump.
Enclosed chain case.
Nice grips.
Hercules A Type 0 three speed hub made under licence from Sturmey Archer.
Made in England! So there you have it.
Work to follow.
This is the closest ad I could find from 1950.
Burgundy with white fenders.
Nice find!

Nice to see a true vintage bike, like the oiling hole on the front hub. Tired of people calling 80’s Raleigh’s vintage makes me feel old.

The cable stop may be original but for 4mm cable not 5mm. Brake levers are interesting but the nut facing outward I suspect out of the nut& bolt jar. Still this is a great find , congratulations.
